University Introduction

Northeast Petroleum University is one of China’s National Key Universities. The university is a dedicated center of engineering studies and research, which also offers courses in many other disciplines including science, business administration, literature, law, and education. NEPU was in the first batch of universities that qualified the Educational Department of the People’s Republic of China’s requirements to offer admissions to international students. It’s high level Key University of Heilongjiang. Northeast Petroleum University’s main campus located in Daqing, Heilongjiang province, along with its branch campus located in Qinhuangdao, Hebei province.

Daqing is the city of national civilization and the charm of China. Daqing city has a beautiful environment and convenient transportation. It is known as "the green oil capital, the natural hundreds of Lakes city, the hometown of hot springs in north China". Daqing is the location of the largest oil field in China and the Daqing oilfield, one of the ten largest oil fields in the world. It is a famous industrial city with petroleum and petrochemical industry as its pillar industry.

Founded in 1960, NEPU now has 2216 members of staff and 23,025 full-time students. It has 64 undergraduate disciplines, of which 8 are national level featured disciplines, 1 national level comprehensive reform trial discipline, and 19 provincial level disciplines. It has 4 post-doctoral research stations, 1 post-doctoral research workshop; 21 disciplines granting doctoral degrees, and 89 disciplines granting master degrees; 4 disciplines granting professional master degrees in business administration (MBA), social work, accounting, and engineering. In 2016, the engineering course succeeded in entering the top 1% of university ESI scores.

NEPU covers an area of 1,691,400 square meters, of which 333,000 square meters are part of our Qinhuangdao branch campus. The total value of educational and scientific equipment is over 500 million RMB. It owns a 10 GB campus network, a library with over 2,550,500 books, and a national level university science and research center.

In the fields of teacher training, academic exchange, educational reform, and research cooperation, NEPU has established fruitful cooperation with more than 30 universities overseas, including Technical University of Clausthal in Germany, American Missouri University of Science and Technology, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, University of Calgary in Canada, Waseda University in Japan, University of New South Wales in Australia, Russian Kuban State Technological University, Tyumen Institute of Technology, Korean Kangwon National University, and Oil & Gas University of Ploiești in Romania.

Important information for students wishing to study abroad:

I. Application requirements

1. The applicant must not be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China and must be in good health.

2. Academic requirements for the applicant:

a. Chinese language learner: must have received high school education or equivalent or higher education;

b. Undergraduate: must have received high school education or equivalent or higher education;

c. Post-graduate: must have received undergraduate education or equivalent or higher education;

d. PhD: must have received post-graduate education or equivalent or higher education;

e. Applicants for undergraduate, post-graduate, and PhD courses must reach Band 4 in the new HSK test; those who have not yet reached Band 4 can take the language preparatory course first, and then transfer to his or her major class after qualifying.

II. Time of admission:

Students applying for courses which do not provide a diploma can enter at any time;

Students applying for courses with a diploma must be enrolled before September 1^st.

III. Length of schooling and tuition fee

Non-diploma courses: Tuition fee of 9000 RMB/year ;

Undergraduate: 4 years of schooling. Tuition fee of 9000 RMB/year for Chinese teaching, and 10000 RMB/year for English teaching;

Post-graduate: 2-3 years of schooling. Tuition fee of 12,000 RMB / year for Chinese teaching, and 13,000 RMB / year for English teaching.

PhD: 3 years of schooling. Tuition fee of 26,000 RMB / year.

IV. Boarding fee

30 RMB/Day for a single room (indoor toilet; public kitchen and laundry);

15 RMB/Day for a double room (indoor toilet; public kitchen and laundry);

V. Scholarship of Northeast Petroleum University for International Students

Each individual scholarship is 4500 RMB/Year（There are no scholarships for PHDS.）

VI. Application materials required:

1. Two copies of Northeast Petroleum University Application for Admission-Foreign Students (which can be downloaded from http://61.167.120.130/, or obtained from International Education School of Northeast Petroleum University);

2. A copy of the applicant’s passport;

3. Students applying for a diploma must provide a copy of their high school diploma and HSK certificate; those applying for master or doctoral degrees should also provide their undergraduate diploma, and post-graduate diploma.
